Sony Xperia 1 IX rumored to bring a new main camera sensor
A larger rear camera island on the Xperia 1 IX points to a sensor change, the first since the Xperia 1 V in 2023.
A rumor points to a new main camera sensor on Sony’s next flagship phone, the Xperia 1 IX. The leaker GXmmm918, posting on Weibo and cited by the blog Sumaho Digest, describes a larger rear camera island than the one on the Xperia 1 VIII, which would most likely mean a physically bigger sensor.
Sony last changed the main sensor with the Xperia 1 V in 2023, when it introduced the Exmor T IMX888, presented as the first dual-layer stacked CMOS image sensor. The same sensor has carried over to later models.
The report offers two possibilities, both Sony-made: the LYT-901, used in the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, or the LYT-910, found in the Vivo X500 Pro Max. The latter uses Lofic technology, which widens dynamic range in high-contrast scenes. The report also notes the larger island could have another cause.
Sony Mobile executive Shohachi Ike has said the Xperia 1 VIII sold well in Europe and that customer satisfaction is high. The Xperia 1 IX is expected in spring 2027.
