Apple says iPhone 17 Pro cases do not fit the iPhone 18 Pro
A tenth of a millimetre more on the camera plateau separates the two generations, though testing found most cases still fit.
Apple says cases made for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are not compatible with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the same applies the other way round. The reason is the camera plateau, which Apple says is slightly thicker on the new models.
The difference is one-tenth of a millimetre: 11.5mm on the iPhone 18 Pro against 11.4mm on the iPhone 17 Pro.
In practice, the two generations proved interchangeable in testing. iPhone 17 Pro cases fitted the iPhone 18 Pro models perfectly, and iPhone 18 Pro cases fitted the iPhone 17 Pro models. Apple’s own cases from both generations should therefore work on both generations of phone, along with many third-party cases.
A few third-party cases may not fit, but that is likely to be the exception rather than the rule.
