GTA 6's multiplayer will not arrive before 2027, Twitch’s CEO says
Dan Clancy expects Rockstar’s online mode next year, while GTA Online keeps running and stays supported.

The multiplayer side of Grand Theft Auto VI should not arrive before 2027. In a Bloomberg interview on 17 September 2026, during the Tokyo Game Show, Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy said his platform had spent a lot of time discussing Rockstar’s plans, and that he expected a spike in activity with GTA 6, then a bigger one next year when the multiplayer launches.
Rockstar presents GTA 6 as a single-player experience, due on 19 November 2026. The timing Clancy gives is his own expectation, drawn from his exchanges with the studio. Signs of a separate online component already exist: the PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as offline play only, and the Xbox Store shows a distinct Story add-on.
GTA Online keeps running and will receive support after GTA 6's release. The online mode arrived two weeks after GTA V in 2013 and became a standalone product in March 2022, nearly nine years later; Red Dead Online followed the same path. GTA V has sold more than 200 million copies.
Take-Two’s head also noted that the PC is becoming increasingly important over time.
