MediaTek details Dimensity 9600 Pro, a flagship chipset for high-end phones
The new chip highlights triple active SIM support and 4K slow-motion video, features that are still uncommon on premium handsets.
MediaTek has detailed the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a flagship chipset aimed at high-end smartphones. The features listed include triple-SIM triple active, slow-motion video capture at 4K and 240 frames per second, and support for VVC.
Triple active SIM support means a phone could keep three lines connected at the same time, something still uncommon on premium handsets. The video side points the same way: 4K slow motion at that frame rate and the VVC codec both put heavy demands on a phone’s image and video pipeline.
The reports do not say when the chip will reach devices, which manufacturers will use it, or how it fares against rival silicon. No performance figures were given either.
For buyers, the announcement matters mainly as a signal of what the next generation of high-end phones is expected to handle: more than one active line, higher-frame-rate slow motion and a newer video coding standard. No phone built around the Dimensity 9600 Pro has been named, so the practical effect will become clearer once makers announce their own models.
