Windows 11 lets users remap the Copilot key to Right Ctrl or Context Menu

The option arrives in Release Preview builds for versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2, with a public rollout expected on 12 October 2026.

Microsoft has added two new remapping options for the Copilot key in Windows 11. The physical key can now be assigned to Right Ctrl or to Context Menu, which reproduces the behaviour of the old Menu key that opened the right-click menu from the keyboard.

The setting sits in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard. It appears in builds 26100.9539, 26200.9539 and 26300.9539, distributed since 10 September in the Release Preview channel for versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2.

One limitation applies: combinations that pair the remapped Right Ctrl with Windows or Shift may not work, and Microsoft recommends falling back to the left Ctrl key.

The feature is expected to reach stable versions of Windows 11 with the cumulative update of 12 October 2026. Until then it remains available to Insider programme members enrolled in the Release Preview channel.
